Gymnastics Closes Regular Season With Win at Kent State

Central Michigan notches 196.175-195.975 win at Kent State; Chippewas take first place in all four individual events; Hannah DeMers wins all-around competition with a 39.400 score.
KENT, Ohio—Central Michigan placed first in all four individual events and senior Hannah DeMers won the all-around competition as the Chippewas defeated Kent State 196.175-195.975 in its final MAC gymnastics meet Sunday at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center. The event also marked CMU's final regular season competition before its travels back to Kent next weekend for the 2023 MAC Gymnastics Championship.
Central Michigan earned the win by placing first in all four individual events. Lia Kmieciak won vault with a 9.875, DeMers tied for the bars victory with a 9.850, freshman Luciana Alvarado-Reid posted a career-best 9.925 on the beam to win that event, and senior Taylor Pitchell tied her career-best with a 9.950 score on floor. In the all-around, DeMers tallied a 39.400 in the all-around and Alvarado-Reid posted a 39.300.
"I'm really proud of how hard we fought today," Central Michigan Head Coach Christine MacDonald said. "This team continues to progress each week as we peak for the conference championship next weekend. We put in a lot of time this week on landings and it really showed today."
DeMers started the Chippewas off with a 9.850 on bars, Alvarado-Reid had a 9.800, and senior Ashley Veglucci finished at 9.825.
Next up was vault as junior Elizabeth Cesarone notched a 9.850, Kmieciak followed with her first-place 9.875 score, redshirt sophomore Hallie Hornbacher notched a 9.825, and DeMers closed the rotation down with a 9.850.
Alvarado-Reid posted a 9.875 on floor, Veglucci followed with a 9.85, DeMers brought the house down with a 9.925 and Pitchell provided the exclamation point with a career-high tying 9.950. The Chippewas combined to post a high score of 49.400 on floor.
Beam was the last rotation as Alvarado-Reid hit on a career-best 9.925 and senior Aleysia Kolyvanova scored a 9.875.
The Chippewas conclude their regular season with a 4-2 MAC record and 7-4 overall in head-to-matchups.
Next up, Central Michigan travels back to Kent State for the MAC Championship Meet on Saturday, March 19.
