CMU posts 11-2 rally into halftime, sixth-ranked Wolverines run away with it after the break
ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Central Michigan Women's Basketball ceded an 82-40 result at No. 6/8 Michigan Wednesday night in the Crisler Center.
Ayanna-Sarai Darrington (Lexington, Ky. / Frederick Douglass) led the way with 11 points, five rebounds for the Chippewas—all but two of her points after halftime.
The Wolverines opened quickly with a 12-0 run that produced a brief 20-point margin late in the quarter.
CMU outscored its host 18-7 over the final 11 minutes of the first half and held the nationally contending Michigan squad without a field goal for the final seven minutes into intermission.
Riley Smith (Miamisburg, Ohio / Archbishop Alter) bookended the 18-7 stretch with a pair of three-pointers. Seven Chippewas scored in the meantime.
The effort began to unravel after intermission. The Wolverines iced the contest with an 8-0 run to open the latter half, which ballooned to a 20-4 breakaway with three minutes left in the third.
Central Michigan Women's Basketball heads to No. 17/16 Kentucky Sunday (Dec. 7, Noon ET) to conclude a four-game stretch against power-conference opponents, three of four against nationally ranked programs.
The Chippewas return to McGuirk Arena Dec. 20 (1 p.m. ET) to host Northern Illinois to open Mid-American Conference play, following a quick trip to Valparaiso (Dec. 17, 7 p.m. ET).
