An impact player for A10 Champion George Mason, Mitchell comes to CMU for her final year of eligibility
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — Central Michigan Women's Basketball signed six-foot forward Nekhu Mitchell (Baltimore, Md. / McDonogh) Tuesday for the 2025-26 season.
"Nekhu will be an amazing addition to our program," Head Coach Kristin Haynie said. "She is an efficient player that can score in multiple ways. She will bring leadership and a championship mindset to our team. We're thrilled to welcome Nekhu and her family to the Chippewa community."
A signee through the transfer portal, Mitchell will have one year of NCAA eligibility remaining after playing her first three collegiate seasons at George Mason, a 2025 NCAA tournament qualifier. She played in 94 games for the Patriots in three seasons, making 40 starts, starting the entire 31-game slate of the 2023-24 campaign—one of just two players to do so for George Mason that season.
"I love the community and environment of CMU," Mitchell said. "The coaches are amazing. They made an effort to make me feel like I belong, and I am a part of something bigger than myself. CMU offers opportunities to be involved, especially in diverse ways."
As a junior, Mitchell made notable strides in efficiency with career-bests in field goal percentage (54.5 percent) and three-point percentage (46.2 percent) en route to another career high with 180 points. She also posted the first 20-point game of her career last season in a 76-66 victory over Massachusetts.
Mitchell was a league champion and first-team all-league selection in her senior season at McDonogh School in Owings Mills, Md., twice named a team captain for the Eagles. She also played AAU basketball with the Fairfax Stars, named the MVP of the Rose Classic in 2020.
Central Michigan Women's Basketball returned to the Mid-American Conference Championship tournament for the first time since 2021 in the second season under Coach Haynie. The Chippewas improved by eight wins overall, five in league play from the first to second year, finishing at 14-17 (9-9 MAC).
