A standout point guard on the national prep scene joins the Chippewas as a freshman in 2025-26
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — Central Michigan Women's Basketball signed five-foot-seven point guard Lila Turnbull (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Western Reserve) for the 2025-26 season Tueday.
"Lilah is a fierce competitor with an unmatched motor that leaves it all on the floor," Head Coach Kristin Haynie said. "She is a point guard with a high IQ and leads with passion, grit and toughness. We're excited for her and her family to become part of the Chippewa community!"
Turnbull is the second high school prospect signed in this cycle, alongside Rylan Buschell's signing during the opening week of the national signing period in November.
The soon-to-be graduate of Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, Ohio led the Pioneers to the National Prep Championship final last month, defeating IMG Academy (FL) and Newman School (MA) en route to the title game.
Turnbull is battle-tested through the 2024-25 season at Western Reserve. The Pioneers played the third-toughest schedule in the state of Ohio (per MaxPreps) with seven out-of-state games against either state champions or national prep tournament qualifiers on top of five in-state opponents that reached at least the quarterfinals of the OHSAA Division I or II state playoffs.
Prior to Western Reserve, Turnbull was named an all-section honoree during her three seasons at Chartiers Valley High School in Bridgeville, Pa. She recorded 13 double-digit scoring games in her junior season, including a pair of 20-point outings. A true fit for CMU's mold under Coach Haynie, Turnbull also collected at least five rebounds in seven games with four games of eight-plus.
Central Michigan Women's Basketball returned to the Mid-American Conference Championship tournament for the first time since 2021 in the second season under Coach Haynie. The Chippewas improved by eight wins overall, five in league play from the first to second year, finishing at 14-17 (9-9 MAC).
