MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- The Central Michigan soccer team rebounded from its heartbreaking double-overtime loss on Thursday to Bowling Green with a convincing 3-0 win over Toledo on Sunday in a Mid-American Conference game at the CMU Soccer/Lacrosse Stadium.
Â
The Chippewas improved to 7-2-2, 4-2 MAC, and have 12 points in the MAC standings. They stand along in third place behind first-place Bowling Green (18 points) and second-place Ball State (15). Toledo is 4-10, 1-5.
Â
"The big theme of the day was bouncing back," CMU coach Jeremy Groves said, referring to the loss to Bowling Green. "Losing in overtime is always pretty hard to bounce back from, and that's what we talked about for the past two days. The girls came out and performed pretty well, they fought hard, and scored some goals."
Â
Offensive Output
The three goals were a season high for CMU, which has scored a combined seven goals in its last three games.
Â
"I think once a couple people start scoring goals, it's going to become a habit here," CMU coach Jeremy Groves said. "(Assistant coach) Ian Collins has done a good job with training with the forwards. We've spent a whole bunch of time finishing (our shots), and we're starting to score, which is good. Hopefully it'll continue."
Â
How It Happened
CMU got first-half goals from Lauren DeBeau and Cassidy Pettinger. DeBeau's goal, which came in the 26th minute, was her second of the season. Pettinger's goal, her first, came in the 35th. Marle Bringard assisted on Pettinger's goal.
Â
Bringard scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 48th minute. Maria Kaschalk assisted.
Â
Numbers
The Chippewas dominated the game statistically, finishing with a 19-6 advantage in shots and an 8-2 edge in corner kicks. The 19 shots are the third most for the Chippewas in a game this season.
Â
In Goal
Zoie Reed made three saves in goal for CMU in posting her fifth shutout on the season.
Â

CMU will be on the road for two conference games next weekend. The Chippewas go to Ohio on Friday, Oct. 18 (4 p.m.) and then to Kent State on Sunday, Oct. 20 (1 p.m.). Ohio is 7-6-1, 2-3-1; Kent State is 5-6-2, 3-2-1 and tied for fourth place in the conference with Western Michigan with 10 points.
