Another Strong Opponent Awaits CMU Women

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan women's basketball team will continue its rugged early season schedule on Sunday (2 p.m.) when it goes to Western Kentucky for a nonconference game.
The Chippewas are 0-2 after falling 111-105 in double overtime in their season opener at home to Green Bay, and to No. 9 Louisville, 76-63, on Thursday.
The Chippewas
Junior guard Micaela Kelly leads the Chippewas in scoring at 21.5 points per game, while junior forward Kyra Bussell is second on the team in scoring (20.0) and leads CMU in rebounding (8.0).
CMU is scoring 84 points per game, and allowing 93.5.
Tough Road
The Chippewas have played the No. 9 team in the nation (Louisville) and the No. 18 team (Green Bay) in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25. After the loss to Green Bay, the Chippewas went from 12th in the Mid-Major poll to 14th, while Green Bay moved one spot ahead of CMU and into 13th.
"I told our team, 'Look we have the pieces to be a really special team in our conference and throughout; that's why we play these games early,'" first-year CMU coach Heather Oesterle said. "'This is why you come to Central Michigan because we schedule like this.'
Scouting
The Hilltoppers are 2-1. Their lone loss came to Louisville, 75-56, on Nov. 5. WKU's victories have come over Mercer, 75-62, and over Belmont, 77-46.
Dee Givens lead Western Kentucky in scoring at 15.7 points per game.
The Hilltoppers are making 39.7 percent of their 3-point attempts on the season, and are limiting their opponents to 28.9 percent. They also hold a plus-7.0 rebounding margin per game.
